The Department of Pharmacy Practice at N.E.T. Pharmacy College organized an awareness programme on World Kidney Day 2026 on 12 March 2026 at 3:00 PM in Lecture Hall-3 to promote awareness about kidney health and prevention of kidney diseases.
The theme for 2026 was “Kidney Health for All: Caring for People, Protecting the Planet.” The programme aimed to educate students about maintaining kidney health, early detection of kidney diseases, and adopting preventive lifestyle practices.
The programme was graced by Mr. Binu KM and Mr. Shivanand MR, who highlighted the importance of health awareness among healthcare students. A guest lecture was delivered by Dr. Divyashree on “Microplastics: A Hidden Threat to Kidney Health.” The session explained how microplastics can enter the human body through food, water, and the environment, potentially causing kidney damage, oxidative stress, and worsening chronic kidney disease.
The speaker also discussed major risk factors for kidney diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, smoking, dehydration, and excessive use of certain medications. Preventive measures including adequate hydration, balanced diet, regular exercise, routine health check-ups, and rational use of medicines were emphasized.
Around 100 participants, including students and Pharm D interns, attended the programme and actively participated in the session.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Syed Mohammed , lecturer Department of Pharmacy Practice ensuring the smooth conduct of the event. The programme concluded with an interactive discussion session, making the event informative and successful in spreading awareness about kidney health.
