3D Printing in Pharmacy and Personalized Medicine: From Pixels to Pills
N.E.T. Pharmacy College, Raichur, Department of Pharmaceutics, successfully organized a one-day workshop on “3D Printing in Pharmacy and Personalized Medicine: From Pixels to Pills” on 14th August 2026 at Dr. C. M. Gurumurthy Hall, Navodaya Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Raichur. The programme commenced at 8:30 AM and witnessed the participation of more than 200 students, faculty members and delegates from various colleges across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, making it a vibrant platform for academic interaction, knowledge sharing, innovation and exposure to emerging technologies in pharmaceutical sciences. The workshop was organized by the Department of Pharmaceutics, N.E.T. Pharmacy College, Raichur.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of the management and academic leadership of Navodaya Education Trust. Dr. H. Doddayya, Professor & In-charge Principal, presided over the programme. The distinguished dignitaries included Dr. T. Srinivas, Registrar, NET; Prof. C. Suresh Babu, Director – Administration, NET; Dr. V. Rama Mohan Gupta, Director – Academic Development & Research, NET; and Dr. Prakash Katakat, Founder, 3DFying, Hyderabad and Resource Person. Dr. Sarfaraz Md., Professor & Head, Department of Pharmaceutics, served as the Convener.
Inaugural Function
The inaugural ceremony commenced with a warm welcome to the dignitaries, students, faculty members and delegates, followed by the ceremonial sapling plantation and watering by the dignitaries. The ceremony set an enthusiastic tone for the workshop and highlighted the importance of academic collaboration, continuous learning and innovation in pharmacy education. Dr. T. Srinivas, Registrar, NET, in his Chief Guest Address, appreciated the organizing team for conducting the workshop and emphasized the importance of continuous learning and upgrading knowledge beyond the prescribed curriculum. He encouraged students and faculty members to actively participate in conferences, workshops and academic programmes and make the best use of opportunities to learn about emerging developments in pharmacy and healthcare.
Dr. V. Rama Mohan Gupta, Director – Academic Development & Research, NET, highlighted the emerging role of 3D printing in pharmaceutical formulation and personalized medicine. He discussed the potential of developing patient-specific dosage forms and emphasized the importance of understanding the complete 3D-printing process. He also drew attention to important aspects such as regulatory requirements, quality control and approval of 3D-printed pharmaceutical products.
Dr. H. Doddayya, Professor & In-charge Principal, appreciated the efforts of the organizing team and welcomed the participation of students and faculty members from different institutions. He emphasized the importance of exposing learners to emerging technologies and encouraged all participants to utilize the workshop effectively for enhancing their knowledge and practical skills.
The inaugural ceremony also witnessed the formal release of Pharma Focus by the dignitaries on the dais. The event further featured the distribution of Hackathon certificates to participating students, recognizing their efforts and encouraging innovation, creativity and problem-solving among young learners.
Industry–Academia Collaboration: Signing of MoU
A major highlight of the programme was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between N.E.T. Pharmacy College, Raichur and 3DFying, Hyderabad, represented by Dr. Prakash Katakam, Founder, 3DFying.
The MoU aims to promote joint research, academic training, student internships, project work, skill development, collaborative publications and technology-oriented initiatives in pharmaceutical 3D printing and personalized medicine. The collaboration marks an important step towards strengthening industry–academia engagement and creating opportunities for research, innovation, practical learning and technology-driven initiatives for students and faculty members.
Technical Sessions: From Pixels to Pills
The technical sessions were led by Dr. Prakash Katakam, M. Pharm, Ph.D., Founder, 3DFying, Hyderabad, with Ms. Harshal U. Jaiswal, M. Pharm, Scientist (3D Formulations), 3DFying, Hyderabad, also associated with the programme as a resource person.
The technical programme began with an informative PowerPoint presentation on the fundamentals and overview of 3D printing, covering its applications and emerging role in pharmaceutical sciences and personalized medicine. The session provided participants with an understanding of the basic concepts, applications and potential of 3D-printing technology in the pharmaceutical field.
A major attraction of the workshop was the live demonstration of pharmaceutical 3D printing. More than 200 students, faculty members and delegates from participating institutions had the opportunity to observe the practical aspects of the technology. Different shapes and layered structures were demonstrated, enabling participants to understand how commands are provided to a 3D printer and how the structures are formed layer by layer.
The demonstration provided valuable practical exposure to the step-by-step process of 3D printing, from giving commands to the printer to the formation of the final printed structure. Participants also gained insight into the potential of 3D printing for the development of personalized and patient-specific medicines, along with its advantages and future applications in pharmaceutical formulation and drug delivery.
The interactive sessions further enhanced participant engagement and created an excellent learning environment. Students and faculty members had the opportunity to connect theoretical concepts with practical applications and understand how advanced 3D-printing technology can contribute to the transformation of conventional pharmaceutical formulation into more patient-centric and personalized drug-delivery approaches.
Valedictory Function
The workshop concluded with a dignified Valedictory Function. The resource person, Dr. Prakash Katakam, was felicitated by the dignitaries on the dais in recognition of his valuable contribution to the programme and for providing participants with theoretical and practical insights into pharmaceutical 3D printing.
Certificates of Participation were distributed to students, faculty members and delegates representing various participating colleges. Representatives from participating institutions shared their positive feedback and appreciation for the informative technical sessions, live demonstration, interactive learning experience and overall organization of the workshop.
