World AIDS Day Observed at N.E.T Pharmacy College, Raichur
The Department of Pharmacy Practice, N.E.T Pharmacy College, Raichur, organized a meaningful awareness program on World AIDS Day on 1st December 2025 at the AV Room, Central Library. The event was conducted to sensitize students and faculty about HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention, early diagnosis, and public health responsibility, in alignment with this year’s global theme, “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response.”
World AIDS Day is observed globally every year to raise awareness about HIV infection, reduce stigma and discrimination, and promote collective action toward prevention, treatment, and care. Keeping these objectives in focus, N.E.T Pharmacy College organized this program to educate future healthcare professionals on their crucial role in addressing HIV/AIDS challenges in society.
Inauguration and Welcome Address
The program commenced with a warm welcome to all dignitaries, faculty members, and students. The formal welcome address was delivered by Dr. Deepali Patil, Lecturer, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, who highlighted the significance of World AIDS Day and emphasized the importance of continuous education and awareness in combating HIV/AIDS. She encouraged students to actively participate in community outreach programs and health awareness initiatives.
Introduction of the Resource Person
Dr. Sarfaraz Md., Professor & Head, Department of Pharmaceutics, introduced the invited speaker for the day, Dr. Boramma G, Professor & Head, Department of Community Medicine, Navodaya Medical College Hospital & Research Centre (NMCH&RC). He briefly highlighted her academic excellence, professional experience, and contributions to public health and community medicine.
Expert Lecture on HIV & AIDS Awareness
The highlight of the World AIDS Day program was the expert guest lecture delivered by Dr. Boramma G on the topic “HIV & AIDS: From Infection to Immune Collapse.” Her lecture provided an in-depth understanding of the pathophysiology of HIV infection, stages of disease progression, and its impact on the immune system.
Dr. Boramma explained current epidemiological trends, modes of transmission, preventive strategies, and the importance of early diagnosis and adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART). She also addressed common myths and misconceptions associated with HIV/AIDS and emphasized the role of healthcare professionals, especially pharmacists, in patient counseling, medication adherence, and reducing social stigma.
The session was highly interactive, with students actively engaging by asking questions related to prevention strategies, public health policies, and community-based interventions. A video presentation on World AIDS Day was also screened, reinforcing the global message of awareness, compassion, and collective responsibility.
Release of PharmaFocus and Conclusion
As part of the event, the college also witnessed the release of “PharmaFocus”, reflecting the academic and creative contributions of students and faculty members. The program then moved toward its conclusion with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. N. Naga Deepthi, Lecturer, Department of Pharmacy Practice, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, speaker, organizing committee, and students for their active participation and cooperation.
The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony honoring the guest speaker, followed by the National Anthem, marking a respectful and meaningful closure to the program.
Outcome of the Program
The World AIDS Day observance at N.E.T Pharmacy College, Raichur was highly informative and impactful. The program successfully enhanced awareness among students regarding HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and social responsibility. It also reinforced the importance of pharmacists as frontline healthcare professionals in promoting public health education and patient-centered care.
